“UNGA SHORTAGE” A POLITICAL GIMMICK

As Kenyans celebrate the return of Unga to the stores, another group of farmers are in agony as they have been affected by the governments move to subsidize prices without involving them.

News of the arrival of maize grains from Mexico was a great shocker to the nation and the farmers as the government rushed out to procure and purchase grains from outside without exhausting the local stores. NASA leader and Bomet Governor Hon Isaac Ruto today during a rally in Gussi stadium accused the government of playing politics with grains. A group of manufacturers have also cried foul on the governments plan and hold that the move is just but a political gimmick that will not last for a long period of time.

The just procured maize flour is tagged GOK and will retail at sh.90 for 2kg and sh.47 for 1kg. Though the government has released the subsidized flour, most retailers ha net received them and are left wondering what they will do with their previous stocks
