MAIZE SHORTAGE; A SCANDAL IN THE MAKING

Maize shortage in Kenya is threatening not only the lives in the county but also manpower. While desperate situations call for desperate measures, this time round, Kenya has got itself into one and the government of the day in actual sense acted in microseconds.

The country has since acquired maize from Mexico and this brings to play the story of one , Simon Makonde who I learnt in my childhood. Makonde loved his life in a week and this is exactly what’s happening to Kenya.

The parliament in response to the situation on Tuesday passed a bill in regards to maize import

On Wednesday, Mr Kenyatta signed the bill into law

On Thursday, the tendering process began

On Friday, a cruise ship docked at the Mombasa port with maize in it.
Surely how short was the distance this tim round that the ship arrived at the Kenyan port in less than 24 hours?

Secondly it beats logic how a rendering process was done and awarded in less than 24 hours. Could this be another scandal? I leave that to you to answer
From the foregoing, the import of maize could yet be another mother of all scandals in the country. I am left amazed why the shortage arises yet there is maize in silos in Rift Valley. Was this planned to finance campaigns as some of the leaders posit? I don’t know.
